Holden's Finance Committee made its public case for a $5.5 million property tax override ahead of the May 11 vote. Chairman Paul Challenger, joined by members Donna Wallace and Jane Titcombe, said the override would add $753 a year to the average $554,000 home's tax bill and push the rate to $15.27.
The Holden Finance Committee voted 7-2 to recommend a $4,916,254 property tax override to the Board of Selectmen. Chair Paul tied $1,190,714 of the request directly to the Wachusett Regional School District, saying "Holden isn't causing the problem" of collapsing state Chapter 70 aid.
