Holden's Finance Committee weighed revenue ideas but held no budget votes. At a workshop, members discussed lifting the excise tax estimate from $3,500,000 to $3,600,000 and adding $100,000 to EMS receipts. They also discussed a proposal to cut DPW park maintenance by $60,000 and raise field maintenance contributions from the Recreation Revolving Fund by $40,000 and the Novak Field Revolving Fund by $20,000.
A possible 0.75 percent meals tax, estimated by state staff at $200,000 to $260,000 a year, could not be counted in the coming budget, and members agreed to study it after Town Meeting. One member said a $5 million shortfall overshadows small transfers: "We have a $5 million problem." Members also kept a $150,000 stabilization-funded reserve fund in their plans. Votes were limited to approving six sets of past minutes.
